This was due last week, but I was flying back from Mexico. It has taken me a while to get off the vacation timing and into some sort of swing of things. Though I am still not fully there, I actually miss the expression and disciple of writing. Here are a couple bands worth checking out. One pretty new and another that has been around for a while.
Foster the People :: first formed in 2009 and has an alternative rock sound similar to bands like TV on the Radio and Broken Bells. It is a combination of synth, rock, programming, and some percussion. The thing that makes me want to hate them is they are young and good looking. If that were a legitimate reason for hatred I too would have spent much of my life being hated. So instead I welcome them to the club and tell them to continue to rock. Check out Torches by Foster the People. It came out last Tuesday.
The Rocket Summer :: has been around for some time now. The Rocket Summer is the alternative rock solo-project of Bryce Avary. He released his first album in 1999 and has consistently given his fan base new music. He has developed a loyal following by spending many recent summers on the Vans Warped Tour. This past week my friend and fellow youth pastor Christian Warne told me about a live recording that The Rocket Summer is making available for FREE on his website. It really is a “greatest hits” of his albums. My only complaint of the album is that his fans are so passionate, that they often overshadow his voice, which is why we listen. Oh well, you get what you pay for. Great album. He seems to indicate he is going away for a while. It will be interesting to see if it is to write an album or to find himself. Thanks for the free music Bryce!
